In 2002 there were less than 1500 known Near-Earth Objects (NEOs). In 2020, @nasa's @catalina_sky Survey (CSS) discovered 1,546 NEOs, which is more in a single year than was found in history prior to 2002! Learn more about CSS & how they help NASA's #PlanetaryDefense efforts.

On Dec. 6, @JAXA_en’s Hayabusa2 delivered a capsule to Earth with some of the most precious cargo in the solar system –– a sample of asteroid Ryugu. Now, @NASA astrobiologists are prepared to inspect these ancient grains to learn more about their origins: https://go.nasa.gov/2Iy0gqs

#PlanetaryDefense is a team effort! @NASA-funded @catalina_sky and @fallingstarIfA coordinated to track small near-Earth #asteroid 2020 XK1 as it safely passed by Earth on Dec. 7.

        ATLAS Project@fallingstarIfA

2-meter asteroid 2020 XK1 was a team effort. Catalina Sky Survey detected this near-impactor last night, then "handed off" the object to ATLAS-Haleakala, which continued tracking it so that it would not get lost. https://www.minorplanetcenter.net/mpec/K20/K20X57.html
